Tebowmania is Back and in Full Effect

Tim Tebow has been a national icon since his days as the QB for the Florida Gators where he won two national championships an a Heisman. In 2011 he became the starting QB for the Denver Broncos and led them to a thrilling playoff victory in overtime against the Pittsburg Steelers, giving birth to Tebowmania. Although there is much debate over whether or not the guys is actual any good as a QB, Tebow faithfuls are always quick to point out the fact that “all he does is win”. In 2012, the Broncos signed Peyton Manning and traded Tebow to the Jets and brought Tebowmania to the Big Apple. Sadly it did not work out for him. Unfortunately for Tebow, his fall from grace was fast and hard. In just two short years, Tebow went from playoff winning QB to not even in the NFL anymore.

If you live under a rock or just don’t follow sports at all, you’re probably wondering what Golden Boy Tebow is up to. Well, Tebow has decided to bring his talents back to New York! Only this time he has traded in his football spikes and shoulder pads for baseball cleats and a glove. Tebow has decided to try to revive his athletic career as a professional baseball player and on September 8th the Mets signed him to a minor league contract. Mets GM Sandy Alderson can say all he wants that this was strictly a baseball decision, but let’s be real. If you think for a second this had nothing to do with the fact that Tebow is one of the most popular athletes of all time and will sell a ton of merchandise for the team, then you’re as delusional as the people who think he can be a starting QB in the NFL. Tim Tebow, a 29 year old rookie and former NFL QB, has currently the highest selling jersey in all of baseball. He’s not just the highest selling jersey on his team or even the Mets organization. His jersey is bought more often than ANY OTHER PLAYER IN ALL OF BASEBALL!!! That is just bonkers. Tebow hasn’t played a single inning of professional baseball and he is selling more jerseys that 10 year veterans and future hall of famers. Sandy Alderson is going to ride the Tebow money train as long as he can.

As fun of a story this has become, lets just face the reality. Tebow will never see a major league roster. He may never make is out of single A ball. This is a lot like when the White Sox signed Jordan. Jordan was a freak athlete and a god in Chicago. Yeah he was pretty bad at baseball but people still went to see him play and bought his jerseys. Tebow is the same way. He will make a ton of jersey sales and have a bunch of media attention even though he’s actually pretty terrible at baseball. But hey, do you Tebow. Until the clock strikes midnight and this “magical” comeback story ends, we’ll enjoy watching the circus and seeing Timmy Baseball mash bombs during batting practice.
