It’s been a while but Double Down is back baby! We were on the verge of death, but like a Phoenix we rose from the ashes and are back to kick some ass. We will make more of an effort to pump out hot takes more often and make Double Down Sports a website you can’t get enough of and that’s a promise.
Ok now on to the question at hand. Is Alex Ovechkin cursed? Any hockey fan, casual or hardcore, knows The Great 8 is a world class player. He is easily a top 3 player every season and is arguably one of the greatest goal scorers who has ever played the game. He ranks 33rd in career goals and has an actual chance to break Gretzky’s career goal mark of 894. When it’s all said and done, Ovechkin will be a first ballot hall of famer. And yet, 10 years into his career, Alex the Great has never progressed passed the second round of the playoffs.
This was supposed to be Ovechkin’s year. Washington was dominant during the regular season. They ran away with the President’s Trophy as the team with the most points in the league. Washington finished the season with 120 points, 11 more than Dallas who had the second best record. In the offseason they made key acquisitions that were supposed to put them over the top. TJ Oshie and Justin Williams were two big names who were supposed to take Washington to the promise land and help bring Lord Stanley’s cup to our nation’s capital. However, even with all the team’s talent and all of the regular season success, Washington is on the verge of once again watching the conference finals from home.
Now back to my main question: is Alexander Ovechkin cursed? Some players are destined to never win a championship, regardless of how great they may be. Ovechkin may very well be one of those players. He will have all the personal accolades and achievements in the world but there is a good chance he never gets his name etched on that beautiful silver cup.
The verdict…NOT CURSED!
I truly believe that one day Ovechkin will win the Stanley Cup. He
is too good of a player and deserves a ring. It may not be for another five, maybe even 10 years but he will win one. This year would have been his year if they didn’t run into the buzz saw that is the Pittsburgh Penguins. Good luck to you Alex Ovechkin. Just don’t win a cup before I get to see my Rangers win one.

(By the way when Washington comes back against Pittsburgh and wins the Cup this year, I want a thank you from Washington for jinxing the Penguins. Washington was down 3-1 going into the third period when I started this article and now they’re tied 3-3 going into overtime. God I love playoff hockey)
